• What is the format of the festival?
    • The festival is centred around literature from the Global South, but it is not limited to literature alone. There will be poetry, spoken word, an evening open mic session, craft and writing workshops, storytelling, music, and a community infoshop/market — open to all community organisations or collectives fundraising for their community or cause.
  • Who is the organiser of the festival?
    • This festival is a collaboration between other kitaab ghar (Prayash Gharti Chhetri) and Sasha Francis (she/her) – both tangata tiriti and community organiser living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

  • Is there an entry fee? 
    • No. Entry is free. If you are able or in a position to contribute financially, we appreciate koha/gift. Your presence — in person or in spirit — is a koha to us.

  • Is the venue accessible to all tangata/people of different needs?
    • Yes, the venue is accessible to tangata/people of all needs.
  • What are the guidelines/protocols of the venue?
    • Any form of harmful -ism or -phobia — in any shape or form — is absolutely not welcome. Expressions of kotahitanga/solidarity, aroha/love, mana/respect, and manaaki/care are welcomed and encouraged. Please refer our collective conduct which is available on our website – collective-conduct – songs of solidarity
    • Living on Indigenous land, we (tangata tiriti) are guided by values enshrined in Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1840 (te reo Māori version only) and by tikanga — the first law of Aotearoa.

  • Will there be food and drinks?

    • Yes, there will be kai/food, tea, and water. If you can, please koha/donate.
